The Pantry, Manly restaurant review

Angus burger at The Pantry

I recently visited The Pantry in Manly. Manly beach aside from having an amusing name has a much more relaxed vibe than Bondi (unlike the property prices) and the ferry trip there is always pleasant. (more…)

Saffron – Cafe review

Iced coffee

Glebe is a Saturday morning favourite in our flat. In the summer Glebe market provides a wonderful shaded gift shoppers dream perforated by the sweet, moorish smell of roasted caramelised peanuts and fresh homemade pinelimeade (pineapple and lemon/lime). (more…)

blue eye dragon

Had it not been for the eye catching, artistic iron gate I might never have found this place. Hidden away from the rest of Pyrmont’s restaurants next to St Bede’s church and in shadow’s of the sprawling ‘mega casino’ is Blue Eye Dragon Taiwanese restaurant. (more…)

Baroque restaurant

I was fortunate enough to recently be taken for lunch at Baroque by a good friend. Baroque French “bistro, bar and an unforgettable patisserie” is located in Sydney harbour with pedigree chef, Peter Robertson. With so much to offer it is hard to know where to begin my review. (more…)

Most overated kitchen utensil?

Now this is a little off my usual recipes and reviews, but as lover of cooking I  have an interest in kitchen ‘stuff’.  I love cookbooks, quality knives, cookware and my potato ricer.  However, I cannot stand useless kitchen utensils that are marketed as labour saving devices making so called unpleasant or difficult kitchen tasks ‘fun’.  Generally the items don’t work very well and if they do it takes about 3 hours to clean it after use. Food Markets and the Spring Food and Wine Fest

Food markets are something that I never seem to tire of. The ever growing abundance of choice in not just events but also the range of produce available has taken off like a deranged frog in a sock in the last 2 years. (more…)

Restaurant Review – La Grande Bouffe

As a huge fan of French food, this is a restaurant that I have been looking forward to reviewing for a while, so on my birthday it was an easy decision.

On entry to La Grande Bouffe we are greeted by a beaming pretty young Parisian waitress.  The atmosphere and décor instantly strikes me as authentic and welcoming. I instantly feel comfortable here and I’m wet lipped in anticipation of the culinary treasures to follow, (I turned food geek and downloaded the menu in advance to savour the experience). (more…)

Review of Corner 75 Hungarian Restaurant

Paprika chicken

My late father-in-law was Hungarian. He was an interesting man with fascinating stories. He escaped Hungary in 1956 during the student uprising, he was an inventor and scientist, best of all he liked his food especially cake and paprika, though not necessarily together.  Egészségedre Jules, this ones for you.
